2. Reports to: AICA coordinator, AICA
3. Location: Remote within Africa (with occasional travel to AICA program areas and events)
4. Duration: One-year renewable contract, subject to performance and availability of funding
Background

The Alliance for Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities for Conservation in Africa (AICA) is a regional platform that champions the rights, voices, and leadership of Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities (IPLCs) in conservation. AICA works across Africa to ensure that IPLCs are recognized as equal partners in shaping conservation and climate policy and practice. As part of its 2023–2027 Strategic Plan, AICA has developed a Strategic Communications and Visibility Plan that directly supports four institutional priority goals: • Establishment and operationalization of a pan-African IPLC body • Advocacy, campaigns, and strategic engagement • Putting people at the center of conservation • Promoting inclusive governance and mobilizing the economic value of conserved areas for IPLCs The Communications and Visibility Officer will play a pivotal role in executing the plan, ensuring that IPLC voices are elevated, the AICA brand is positioned as a continental leader, and strategic narratives are shaped across audiences and platforms.

Purpose of the Role

To lead and implement AICA’s communications and visibility work, advancing its strategic communication goals:

• Brand Positioning
• Narrative Shift
• Capacity Building
• Digital Marketing and Fundraising
This role is critical in building public awareness, influencing policy dialogue, empowering IPLC leaders as communicators, and securing global solidarity and funding support.

Key Responsibilities
Key Deliverables

• Annual communications and visibility workplan.
• Updated and active website, social media channels, and digital platforms.
• Monthly social media content calendar and posts.
• At least 4 media articles/feature stories published annually.
• Quarterly donor/stakeholder updates or newsletters.
• Two communication training sessions per year for AICA.
• Annual impact report on communications reach and performance

Qualifications and Experience
Preferred Requirements

Familiarity and experience of working within IPs & LCs conservation and natural resource governance context of Africa, Impact-orientated, with program-building and fundraising skills. Strong leadership and team building skills.

Contract and Remuneration

Contract Type: Consultancy service level contract, depending on candidate location and preference.
Remuneration: Based on experience and market range.
Other: Travel and communications costs covered for project-related assignments.
